The Heart of Therapy: Highlighting our OT’s

What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational Therapy (OT) helps people of all ages participate in activities that are meaningful and necessary to their daily lives. This care is often seen as holistic and focuses on the client’s whole life and environment, not just their diagnosis. The goal of OT is to help people live their life as independently as possible.

Some examples of OT might include:

  • Learning to write with a pencil
  • Eating lunch with a fork
  • Tying shoes
  • Cooking a meal

Our OT’s at Helping Hand work in both the Clinic and the School to provide care for the entire HH community. Our OT’s care about the client’s whole life and environment, not just their diagnosis. They seek to empower the clients to engage in fun and meaningful activities.

Staff Testimonials

An adult and a young girl sit at a table, smiling at each other while holding burgers. Both have empty black plates in front of them. The setting appears to be a casual indoor space with neutral walls.

Amy chose to become an OT because she connected with OT’s whole person viewpoint and saw how challenges or concerns can affect a client’s life. She shared, “When we develop those skills and implement strategies, we then see the carryover into meaningful activities that can change a client’s quality of life completely.”

A smiling woman helps two children pour orange liquid from a measuring cup into a blender, while another child watches nearby in a classroom setting.

For 8 years, Emili coached Special Olympics and led recreation programs through a special recreation association, which sparked her passion for OT. Now, she helps HH students gain confidence, improve their quality of life, and reach their fullest potential.

A woman kneels beside a smiling young girl sitting on a wooden chair. They are laughing together, with art supplies like glue and paper on the table behind them in a bright classroom setting.

Jocelyn chose OT because of its holistic nature and the creativity it takes to empower children and families to engage in activities that matter most to them.
