May is National Speech-Language-Hearing Month and allows us to put a special spotlight on our Speech Pathologists that continue to improve functional communication with our clients.
For millions of individuals, regardless of age, communication skills do not come easily. This is where speech therapy can be used to improve them.
Speech therapy is provided by Speech Language Pathologists, also known as SLPs. They assess individuals, create personalized treatment plans, and work closely with clients to improve their communication skills over time.
Helping Hand’s Speech Language Pathologist, Mikayla Clark, shared “We strive to utilize a strengths-based approach to build upon the amazing skills they already have to let them shine. Tasks are individually selected for each client and may align both work and/or play-based activities that support their needs, interests, and increase their communication skills.”
The approach used by our Speech Pathologists aim to keep therapy fun and engaging. By doing so, clients are genuinely excited to come to therapy.
Those that can benefit from Speech Therapy include:
- Children with language/speech delays
 - Adults recovering from stoke/brain injury
 - Individuals with voice disorders
 - Individuals with stutters
 - Individuals with autism/developmental disorders
 - People with swallowing difficulties
