Transitioning to Adulthood through Genuine Care

Transitioning to Adulthood through Genuine Care

So, what’s next?

We have all asked ourselves this question, especially right after high school. Did you picture yourself in college? A trade? Working full-time?

As parents, families, and caretakers, it’s normal to worry for our loved ones that have intellectual and developmental disabilities. We call this next phase, “the Cliff” and though it may sound scary, Helping Hand is committed to providing resources and services to make the next steps easier.

For adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, we at Helping Hand provide various Adult Programs such as:

  • Employment Services
  • Community Living (CILA)
  • Afterhours Program
  • Community Day Program
  • Intake Process

We understand that everyone is unique in their own way which is why our teams create personalized support plans to ease the transition into adulthood. Students are allowed to adjust at their own pace, with staff support.

Not only do these adult programs help our clients build healthy relationships, but they also set them up for success. Whether it’s working, living independently, or getting involved in our services, our clients know they will be treated with genuine care.

Ceana Gates, Admissions Coordinator explains, “That is the genuine care that we provide here at Helping Hand and not everywhere can say that. We understand that ‘The Cliff’, is STEEP and the certainty is unknown; but our role is to create unique and tailored options at the top of the cliff so we support students and their families before even reaching the edge of the cliff – with transition plans and an array of services for students that need them.”

Transitioning can be a big change for them, however fostering these group activities and using resources we offer can prepare them to focus on their futures. We are committed to truly transforming their lives and doing that with the utmost care and quality education.
