Community Day Programs

As you walk the halls at Helping Hand, you’ll notice a positive, indescribable atmosphere. It comes from the liveliness of our team members and clients as they engage in various activities throughout the day. This energy is ever-present and is something staff, clients and guests notice immediately. We have a holistic approach to all the adults we serve and equally value ALL that walk through our doors.

Community Day Programs

We offer a wide variety of educational tracks that focus on the overall wellness of adult individuals while helping them gain independence in the community and in their home. These educational tracks are provided onsite and occasionally offsite. Other support services include case management, behavior and counseling services, as well as nursing.

Community Day Services

Community Day Services focuses on the overall wellness of adults with I/DD. Adults in the day program receive individualized care in a group setting. Each activity is adapted to the ability of the adult to ensure inclusion. Day program activities help clients:

  • Gain independence
  • Become physically and emotionally stronger
  • Build social skills
  • Learn new skills
  • Go out in the community
  • Have new experiences
  • Make connections

High School Transition

Transitioning from high school to adult programs can be stressful, but not at Helping Hand. Beginning their final year of high school, students may attend the day program as part of their transition plan. Students attend the day program with a school aid who assists them in getting acclimated to the program. Once at the day program, students are assigned to groups and participate in group activities.

This transition helps students acclimate to adult programming by the time they graduate high school. We have strong partnerships with many different school districts and are mutually committed to the specific goals of each individual. Where one transition plan might take 6 months, another might take a whole year.

Aging

The HH aging program provides comprehensive programming, support, activity, socialization, and substance to the daily lives of adult individuals with disabilities as they age or experience dementia and/or Alzheimer’s. We meet the needs of our aging population and adapt our curriculum in a relaxed, laid-back environment. Adults in this program participate in the same activities as their peers, in groups, at their own pace.

Our Successes

A person wearing a light shirt and patterned tie plays a piano in a well-lit room. There are people in the background, and colorful decorations are visible on the walls.

Joseph

Joseph, who is visually impaired, is a client in our Community Day Programs. He has learned names, is able to recognize voices and footsteps, and gains a visual of a person by touching their face. With his gift of being musically talented, he has built an extensive repertoire of songs on the piano – many of which are played during his music group for all to enjoy! Joseph’s success in transitioning to HH can be partly attributed to strong HH team member collaboration with him and his family.

A person with glasses and a purple sweater is smiling while sitting at a table. They are holding a pen and writing on paper. The background is blurred with colorful artwork on the walls.

Zoe

Zoe is a client in our Community Day Programs that has been working on making meaningful connectionsWhen Zoe first arrived to Helping Hand, she was shy around others.  Through the various activities provided she got to know her peers and began forming connectionsZoe can now be seen joking and talking to everyone she encounters throughout the building.
